Check out the new website for IRONBOUND Media, where we build authority for the 'Underdogs' & 'Misfits' (Brands led by Veterans, Black Women, and anyone else who doesn't fit the mold). You focus on building your business, while we create your owned-media assets, platforms you control such as podcasts, newsletters, and online publications. In our world, "underdogs" and "misfits" aren't just terms – they're badges of honor, symbols of strength, resilience, and unparalleled innovation. These individuals embody the spirit of the underdog – consistently defying odds, breaking barriers, and rewriting the rules. They're the misfits who don't just think outside the box; they redefine it. They aren't just part of the conversation; they are the conversation.Sometimes you have to shake things up with a little creative anarchy. When you're ready, let's get this conversation started at www.ironboundmedia.com #MisfitsAreTheNewOutlaws #CreativeAnarchy

Ad folks: my friend Tony Franklin has a great podcast that shines a light on the experiences of Black Executives. In this latest episode he speaks with Brad Bowling and Bilal S. Akram M.A. CDP SAP from CODE M Magazine, which is dedicated to educating, inspiring, and celebrating people of color. Among the many topics they cover in the interview is the continued struggle that Code M (and likely other minority-owned media) has in capturing ad dollars, a critical revenue source to ensure business viability as well as diverse representation in media. Many agencies and brands made pledges to invest in Black-owned media (or more broadly, minority-owned media) in the wake of George Floyd's murder in 2020 (or even earlier with the launch of BLM back in 2013). Today, I think about 2-4% of US media outlets are Black-owned, and they receive <2% of total ad spending. Both figures are disproportionately low when compared to the influence and reach of Black Americans (~14% of the population, projected $1.8 trillion spending power this year). It's a good reminder that we still have work to do. https://lnkd.in/em-NRsmr

This is a podcast well worth deeper thought. Humans often fall into and us and them mindset, which while we may not endorse, at least need to recognize. The Remarkable Leadership Lessons Podcast hosted by Denise Cooper doesn't pull any punches and takes on the very second episode the topic of "Working while Black: Navigating Your Career in a White World of Work". Being the only one of anything can be tough. Even well meaning people may make miss steps let alone not so well meaning people you may encounter. It's a great insight into the lived experience that I and maybe you do not have. And the most critical part of the message from the guest Nat Alston I think is that building personal connections breaks down walls. All of the intentional and unintentional messages that we get about this and that sort of person, don't stand up to the power of personal connection and experience. https://lnkd.in/e6rNPS63

Let's talk about the summer of 2020.More specifically, let's talk about The Summer of 2020: George Floyd and the Resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement. My co-author, Andre E. Johnson, and I are currently scheduling book talks and other media appearances in anticipation of our March book release. Here are some of the topics we can address, either in an interview session (e.g. for your podcast), a live presentation (virtual or in person), or a group workshop:* Similarities between the summer of 2020 and historical social movement uprisings* The cultural factors that make BLM so important at this moment in history* Ways to affect change in your personal life, your organization, your community, your church, and elsewhere* Why BLM remains a relevant message a decade after its founding* What BLM can teach us about alternative, communal forms of leadershipIf you're interested in hosting us, let me know! We had some amazing talks around our previous title, and we'd love to top those experiences this time around!
