Sun Studio: Wie zich wil verdiepen in de beginjaren van Elvis Presley zijn carrière, komt als vanzelf terecht bij Sun Studio, waar eigenaar Sam Philips halverwege de 20e eeuw aan de slag ging met de onnavolgbare muziek van Howlin' Wolf en rockabilly-sensaties als Jerry Lewis en Carl Perkins, en niet te vergeten Johnny Cash, Roy Orbinson en Elvis zelf. Thats Alright Mama, Elvis eerste hit, werd hier in 1954 opgenomen. De kleine studio voert je terug naar die gloriedagen; de krakkemikkige microfoon hangt nog boven het podium, alsof Elvis zo weer terugkomt. Deskundige gidsen geven hier dagelijks rondleidingen, en 's avonds komen hier nog altijd artiesten opnames maken. Sun Studios is 7 dagen per week open. De openingstijden zijn van 10.00 tot 17.15 open. Een toegangskaartje voor een volwassen kost $ 20,00. Men hanteert een beleid wie het eerst komt wie het eerst maalt dus wees op tijd. Sun Studio: Those who want to delve into the early years of Elvis Presley's career will automatically come to Sun Studio, where owner Sam Philips started working in the mid-20th century with the inimitable music of Howlin' Wolf and rockabilly sensations such as Jerry Lewis and Carl Perkins, not to mention Johnny Cash, Roy Orbinson and Elvis himself. Thats Alright Mama, first hit, was recorded here in 1954. The small studio takes you back to those glory days; the ramshackle microphone is still hanging above the stage, as if Elvis will be back in a moment. Expert guides give daily tours here, and in the evenings artists still come to record. Sun Studios is open 7 days a week. Opening hours are from 10 am to 5.15 pm. An adult ticket costs $ 20.00. They operate on a first come, first served policy so please be on time. It is not possible to book far in advance.

2) CD: Buy a CD of the 'Million Dollar Quartet' Sun's spontaneous 1956 jam session between Elvis, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis. Nowadays you can buy the CD everywhere but the CD is cheaper if you buy it at Sun Studio and it has more sentiment.

Op 4 December 1956 vond een geïmproviseerde jam sessie plaatstussen Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins en Johnny Cashin Sun Studios. De jam sessie was puurtoeval. Perkins, die tegen die tijdalsucces hadmet "Blue Suede Shoes", was die dag naar de studio gekomen. Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and Johnny Cash took place at Sun Studios. The jam session seems to have happened by pure chance. Perkins, who by this time had already met success with "Blue Suede Shoes", had come into the studios that day. Phillips, had brought in his latest acquisition, singer and piano man extraordinaire Jerry Lee Lewis, still unknown outside Memphis, to play piano on the Perkins session.

De volgende dag werd een artikel geschreven door Johnson over de sessie, gepubliceerd in de Memphis Press-Scimitar onder de titel "Million Dollar Quartet". The following day, an article, written by Johnson about the session, was published in the Memphis Press-Scimitar under the title "Million Dollar Quartet". The article contained the now-famous photograph of Presley seated at the piano surrounded by Lewis, Perkins and Cash (See picture above). This photo proves Cash was there, but the audio doesn't provide substantial proof he joined in on the session.
